We’ll be adding more information about what makes Canoochee Boats special soon.
What if you put together a team of outdoorsmen, material scientists, engineers, and dreamers, and then asked them to figure out the best way to make a great boat that would still be affordable. What would you get? Well that’s just what we did at Canoochee Boatworks and even though we think the results speak for themselves, I’ll point out a few reasons why we think we’re on to something special.
The material options for building a small boat are fairly broad, but they narrow down very quickly when you consider all the factors such as strength, weight, durability, and cost. In the end, the winning material we selected is a vacuum-infused, fiber-reinforced, epoxy composite. It’s a material that has been favored in high-performance applications in the past, but despite it’s superiority to aluminum and basic fiberglass, it has not seen widespread use in the small boat industry. Why not? The high-cost of structural epoxy and the requirement to use more advanced manufacturing processes have made the material prohibitively expensive for established manufacturers that are already heavily invested in older, more common materials and processes. Since we don’t have those challenges, it was a much easier choice.
